With fall already upon us, Yokohama is introducing a new weapon to help Canadian drivers win the annual battle with winter, which can't be far behind
The new Yokohama iceGUARD iG52c winter tire, which combines the latest technology with long tread life and the brand's eco-friendly BluEarth designation, is said to be custom-built to perform in all Canadian winter conditions.
"The nature of Canada’s landscape and thus the winter conditions we experience are unique compared to other parts of the world," says James de Chavez, marketing manager for Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. "This tire was specifically designed for the Canadian market."
Building on the experience of the proven Yokohama iceGUARD iG51v line of light truck and SUV tires, it is said to employ an ingenious breakthrough in compound and tread pattern design to effectively maintain control in all winter road conditions, including snow, ice, slush, wet and even cold dry roads.
The tire's aggressive tread design features three-dimensional sipes and generous drainage channels.
"Skidding on ice is actually micro-hydroplaning," says de Chavez. "The weight of the vehicle and tire melts the ice to form a thin film of water, which separates the tire from the road. The new iceGUARD Water Absorbing Compound tire draws away the water from the tread area and keeps the tires better connected with the road."
The iceGUARD iG52c features power grooves, and slash grooves to give it better drainage characteristics for optimum traction and control.
An extra-wide power rib maximizes contact with the road for straight-line control, stability and predictable braking, even in the worst conditions.
Its tractive performance, longevity and eco-friendly low-rolling-resistance, which helps reduce fuel consumption, make the iceGUARD iG52c Yokohama’s first winter tire to earn the brand's BluEarth designation.
The iceGUARD iG52c is available in 50 popular sizes for most passenger vehicles at more than 1000 independent tire dealers and more than 3,000 retail locations across Canada.
